Foundation University commemorated World Suicide Prevention Day on 13th September 2021 in Rawalpindi campus.
World over, World Suicide Prevention Day each year on September 10. It’s a growing problem and the numbers tell a shocking story. Every 40 seconds someone takes their own life according to the World Health Organization (WHO). That’s about 800,000 people worldwide every year — although some estimates put that number closer to 1 million. Suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 29 and for every suicide that results in death, there are as many as 40 attempted suicides.
One in every 100 deaths worldwide is the result of suicide. It can affect every one of us. Each and every suicide is devastating and has a profound impact on those around them. However, the event was targeted towards raising awareness, reducing the stigma around suicide and encouraging well-informed action. This could help in reducing instances of suicide around the world.
