NUST Community Services Club ( NCSC ) held an interactive session with the social activists for the transgender community at NUST Islamabad Campus, last week.
The first panelist was the accomplished Nayyab Ali, founder of Transgender Rights Consultants Pakistan, member of the transgender task force established by the Federal Ombudsman, a former member of the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s Special Committee on the Status of Transgender CNIC Registration Punjab, and presenter of the initial draft of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018.
Bijlee Baji was the second panelist. She is widely admired for her courage and compassion, contributions towards enhancing awareness surrounding the trans community, and generous food drives for people living in poverty.
The third panelist was Sherkan Malik, manager at Transgender Rights Consultants Pakistan.
These three inspiring individuals lit up the room with their infectious energy and raw insight, unafraid to engage with students on issues including but not limited to the social construction of gender, harassment faced by transgender people, the plight of our own blinding privilege, and how we can move beyond the destructive norms we live by and imagine and construct a world of dignified inclusivity for all.
